The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians granted $100,000 to the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel in support of an improvement project on their gathering grounds. Through the aide of this grant, the tribe was able to host their Annual Traditional Gathering on Aug. 6.
The Iipay Nation replaced 25 ramadas, as well as an awning for bird singing and dancing, as part of their Ellykwanan Maatayuum Improvement Project. The improved-upon gathering grounds were celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was held by Chairwoman Paipa and Gathering Committee.
While the gathering grounds will host year-round cultural activities, elder and youth events, and community meetings, the tribe opened the grounds with a softball match and horseshoe games during their Annual Traditional Gathering.
