SMBMI Awards KVCR and FNX $1.5 Million To Support Native American Programming

San Manuel Cares

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians recently awarded KVCR and FNX | First Nations Experience a two-year, $1.5 million grant to enable FNX to purchase television and multimedia broadcasting rights to Native and Indigenous content as well as hire a producer and staff to create more local Native American programming. San Manuel is a founding partner—along with KVCR and the San Bernardino Community College District—of FNX, the first national Native broadcast network in country launched in 2010.

It remains the only innovative channel exclusively for Native American and other Indigenous storytellers, filmmakers, producers, entertainers, musicians, sports leaders and all media. The support from the Tribe also will allow FNX to launch a national digital, streaming app with content from U.S.-based Native American filmmakers to make their mark on entertainment and education, which is in keeping with San Manuel’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions and empowering Indian Country.

“Creating a streaming platform for FNX advances our vision for Native American and Indigenous media creations to share our experiences with the world,” said Lynn Valbuena, Chairwoman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. “We are proud to support an initiative that will bring opportunities for Native American creatives to make their mark on entertainment and education. We look forward to the stories and quality content that will be shared through this new streaming app.”
