On July 12, Inter-Tribal Sports hosted a workshop at Arrowhead Springs Hotel on the traditional hand game of Peon with more than 20 Native youth from Southern California. The program started with an overview of Peon—a guessing game played in tribal communities in the region using pieces of bones and sticks, while singing traditional songs around a campfire. The youth then played a friendly game throughout the evening.
Inter-Tribal Sports strives to unify tribal youth and communities through structured athletic programs while helping to develop a strong foundation in culture, leadership and wellness. The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is committed to preserving cultural traditions and is proud to partner with organizations that help bring this to fruition.
